What is known to work in plant health
Whether or not you run a frequency trial, these are the fundamentals. The real fix is usually here.
We position Rezzonix alongside plant care, not in place of it. If a plant has a real problem, the fix is most likely under one of the headings below. That is exactly why this article is on the blog: we do not want a user experimenting with the catalog to skip the thing that actually works.
Correct diagnosis first
Yellowing is not a disease on its own; it is a symptom. Overwatering, nitrogen deficiency, root rot, iron deficiency, root suffocation and natural ageing can all look very similar. A wrong diagnosis renders even the right method useless: if you assume iron deficiency and fertilise a plant whose real problem is overwatering, the fertiliser makes things worse.
Things to look at: which part of the leaf is yellowing (between the veins, or including them), whether it started on old or new leaves, whether there are spots or insects on the underside, the structure of the roots and the smell of the soil. If you are unsure, consult an agronomist or your local agricultural directorate; free diagnostic support exists in many places, and consulting by photograph is often possible.
Soil and water management
Most root rot cases are really a drainage problem. Roots need oxygen; in permanently wet soil they suffocate, and a suffocating root is an open invitation to opportunistic fungi.
- Always use pots with drainage holes; empty water collecting in the saucer.
- Set watering frequency by the soil, not the calendar: push a finger 3–4 cm in, and if it is damp, do not water.
- Aerate heavy, compacted soil with perlite or coarse material.
- In the field, water table and drainage lines are the real source of most chronic problems.
Cultural controls
These are the cheap, proven and effective ones:
- Remove diseased leaves and branches and do not compost them — you would spread the infection.
- Maintain spacing between plants. Air circulation is the greatest enemy of fungal disease.
- Disinfect your tools. Pruning a diseased and a healthy plant with the same shears is carrying the disease by hand.
- Rotate crops. Planting the same family in the same place repeatedly accumulates soil-borne pathogens.
- Water at the root, not the leaf, and water in the morning; a leaf left wet overnight means fungus.
- Use mulch. Water splashing from soil onto leaves is the transmission route for many foliar diseases.
Integrated pest management (IPM)
This is the standard of modern agriculture and its logic is simple: monitor, set a threshold, use the least harmful method first, and move to chemicals only when necessary and at the correct dose.
- Monitoring: regular inspection, yellow sticky traps, pest counts.
- Threshold: not every insect requires intervention. Populations below the economic damage threshold are tolerated.
- Biological control: natural enemies (ladybirds, predatory mites, parasitoid wasps).
- Chemical: when needed, at label dose, at the right time and rotating active ingredients — otherwise resistance develops.
The goal is not zero intervention but reducing unnecessary intervention. Spraying preventively every week is both expensive and a way to breed resistance.
Nutrition and light
If a plant sits long enough in the wrong light or the wrong nutrition, no intervention will save it. Learn the species’ light requirement; keeping a plant that wants “bright indirect light” in a dark corner and then hunting for a disease is futile. With fertiliser, too much can be worse than too little: salt build-up burns roots. When in doubt, get a soil test — at field scale this should be standard anyway.
So where does Rezzonix sit?
It replaces none of the above. It offers a tidy catalog and a clean player for the curious user who wants to run their own trial. If your plant is sick, work through the steps in this article first; and if you are going to experiment, do it on top of them, not instead of them.
Writing this may look like arguing against our own product. It is not: a user losing time with the app instead of fixing a drainage problem is an outcome we do not want either. Keeping the product honest is the only sustainable position in the long run.
